Traveling: Trinity, The Book of Kells, and an Overview of Dublin

The Temple Bar in Dublin

The Temple Bar in Dublin

In a test of wills, our first lecture in Ireland was the morning after the Guinness brewery tour. After a quick breakfast at the local market, we made the trek to the university.  However, this was not just any university.  We were having class at Trinity University.

NOLA-ing: Memorial Day Options

Unknown Soldier Marker at the American Cemetery In Normandy France

Unknown Soldier Marker at the American Cemetery In Normandy France

Memorial Day: Living in New Orleans, we have access to one of the best museums in the world with the WWII Museum.  Starting as the D-Day Museum, it has expanded to preserve the history of the entire war. Having been to Normandy, we truly enjoy the European theater section especially the part on D-Day.  However, the Pacific section is just as well done, and we learn something every time we go.  While they have many events scheduled on Memorial Day itself, this would be a good weekend to take a visit.

OPA!: The New Orleans Greek Fest is this weekend, and we cannot recommend it highly enough.  First, you cannot go wrong with the food.  The spring lamb is one of the best festival foods you can get at any festival.  If you have never tried Greek food, this is a good place to start.  The Greek Dinner gives you a good sampler, and the goat burger is better than most festival burgers. There are tons of activities at the Festival, such as a 5K, canoeing, dancing, and live music.  We thoroughly enjoyed the Cathedral tour, so make sure you put that on your agenda.

Reading: Working Through the Marvel Comic Universe(s)

Cristina and I both have been buying and reading comic books lately.  I think one of the reasons why we both like comic books is that we are both just finished grad school.  Reading intense historical works or detailed educational research just makes us want to read for escapism.  Of course, you can keep up with Cristina’s reading with her Goodreads widget.

While I will keep going to comic book stores, there is no way you can read everything.  There is no way you can afford to read everything.

That is why I signed up for Marvel Unlimited.

At $9.99 a month, I will save my money by reading three comics.  In addition, it lets me fill in the gaps of stories I have already read.  For example, I’ve already read the Marvel Civil War series which consists of seven comics.  By subscribing to Marvel Unlimited, I now have access to all 87 comics in the series event.

Earlier, I wrote about how Spotify has increased the amount of music that I own in physical formats.  A few people that I have talked to say they actually have bought more trade paperback versions of their favorite comic events.  It will be interesting to see if Marvel Unlimited has the same effect on my pocketbook.

So right now, I’m going to read all those comics in the Civil War series. I then want to read more about Hawkeye.  Any suggestions on what I should read next?

Watching: Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, part 2

Part 2 of following The Nerdist’s guide on how to watch all of Marvel’s universe in order. We’re only watching one or two (if it’s a television episode) a night. Just for schlitz and giggles, here’s a running commentary on each. I’ll randomly post them after we’ve watched a few. Obviously, if you’ve never seen the movies…

Spoilers, Sweeties.

5/10/15 – Iron Man 2

Iron Man 2, Tony Stark, Marvel, Robert Downey Jr.

Iron Man 2

Everyone’s least favorite Marvel movie. It doesn’t really bother me that much, I mean, it’s not as good as Iron Man, but I wouldn’t pan it like others do…ew, Mickey Rourke’s fingernails are dirty…I don’t really remember why Mickey hates Tony Stark so much, I’m guessing it has something to do with his father, Howard Stark?…Howard Stark is totally Walt Disney. I’m pretty sure I saw Walt doing the same thing with Tomorrowland. Foreshadowing of Disney buying Marvel?…That’s Stan Lee as Larry King! Ha ha, awesome. I never noticed before…Garry Shandling, Hail Hydra…Wow, Rhodey, you sure got smaller since the last film, but I LOVE Don Cheadle!!!…RDJ just kills it as Tony Stark…I’d much rather have the Iron Man art on my wall too…Scarlett Johansson is so pretty, it’s ridiculous…she always impressed me with her kung fu/kick boxing/whatever she does awesomeness… “I, um, need your impression.” “You have a quiet reserve, I don’t know, kind of an old soul” funny funny…I kind of feel sorry for Justin Hammer, he tries so hard, but he can never be Tony Stark…I would love to go to Monaco one day. That scenery is absolutely gorgeous, old world meets upper echelon. Plus, to see the Grand Prix in person? New bucket list item!…Let’s drive the car straight onto the racetrack! Smart idea!…Cars are blowing up behind him, and this dude’s just walking like he’s taking a leisurely stroll along a duck pond…yep, now the sharks are in the water and are after Tony’s blood…how’d they find a prisoner so willing to give up his life?…who eats in an airport hangar?…are Justin Hammer’s hand supposed to look orange-y like he gives himself self tans?…I love Natasha playing it straight, it was fun to see her transform into Black Widow…I don’t like drunk Tony…uh oh, Rhodey getting mad…are we going to see the birth…of…WAR MACHINE?!… “Side…kick…THIS!”…Oooh, Tony said War Machine’s name! The first instance of it!…Kurt: “would the government have eminent domain over Tony’s suit? And couldn’t Tony just claim the 2nd Amendment?” love it when he talks Civics to me…War Machine straight up stole that suit… “I told you, I don’t want to join your super secret boy band”…ah, here’s Black Widow!…geeze, I love Nick Fury…Hammer is so awkward, it’s kind of hard to watch…I love that little smirk from Fury after he tells Tony he has his “eye” on him…Hammer sucking on a sucker is weird, creepy, and makes me feel a little uncomfortable… “What is and always will be my greatest creation…is you.” Oh my gosh, that little speech from Howard to Tony gets me every time…Tony fumbling over his feelings for Pepper is so cute…that is not really Captain America’s shield, his is full metal…New Mexico! Thor! Yay!! Love these little Easter eggs…Hammer’s like the awkward kid in high school that never got picked for any team and then tries to prove to everyone how smart he really is and how he’ll change the world and they’ll all rue the day they offended him! He just tries so. hard…Black Widow kicks so much butt…Happy is just so adorable, beating up that one guy while Black Widow takes down a dozen…I love that fierce face she gives!…they are so cute when they fight! TS +PP 4eva…Iron Man and War Machine, love it…The ex-wife, always a disappointment…I love the way he saved Pepper…omgggggggggggg, that kiss!…”Which leads us to believe that at this juncture, we’d only like to use you as a consultant.” OH so that’s why he is the consultant!! That explains so much from that Marvel one shot…and did I detect some Incredible Hulk footage on the screen in the room where Fury was talking? It’s all coming together…there’s even a song in the credits that sounds just like There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow from the Carousel of Progress in Tomorrowland!…Thor’s Hammer! I always loved this extra scene, it showed so much into the next movie.

5/10/15 – A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer [Marvel One Shot]

Here’s another Marvel One Shot…I’ve never seen any of these, so it’s kind of exciting to watching new things from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe…good thing we have the Captain America bluray, so we can watch it in HD…who just leaves the gas pumping while he goes inside the store?!…Coulson is just a BAMF!!!…completely unnecessary to the MCU, but definitely made me remember why I love Coulson!

5/11/15 – Thor

Thor, Marvel, Chris Hemsworth

Thor! You know what that means…LOKI!!! I can’t believe that the first time I watched Thor, I didn’t really have a strong attachment/feeling toward Loki. He was just so darn good in the Avengers, I was completely smitten by the end of it. But now, I like to go back and watch Thor and see the beginning of his dance with darkness (is it really the beginning, though? Or more of just the fruition?)…I wonder if Thor helped Kat Dennings’ career on 2 Broke Girls…so the Frost Giants caused the Ice Age, huh…Odin with two eyes, nice…and now there’s just a hole there…I love how Asgard is so advanced, with their floaty, spinning towers and their Wizard of Oz castle…well, here’s the whole problem. Odin tells little Thor and Loki that only one can ascend to the throne, but they were both born to be kings. He instilled jealousy and self-doubt and longing in the wee lad!…I like Thor better with the shorter hair…ooh, look at Loki throwing shade!…I love how Odin puts Thor in his place, and Loki just quietly smirks without actually smirking…Loki’s silver tongue, planting the seed…why does only Thor sound like a faux medieval Shakespearean king?… Yodenheim seems like a nice play for a winter vaca…Loki looks a little scared…Loki’s confusion when he touches the Frost Giant is perfect…how can that thing run UNDER the ice bridge thing? It’s like a giant bug…Odin on a stag in a beam of light, beautiful… “You are a vain, greedy, and cruel boy!” “And you are an old man and a fool!”…I love that Odin does the ‘shush’ thing by Dr. Evil to Loki after he says father…Natalie Portman is GORGEOUS…and boom goes the hammer…Did the guy in the red truck know something was there? Or was he just randomly driving and saw the hole?…this might be my favorite Stan Lee cameo, he just looks so happy…When Loki asks what am I, and Odin responds, “you’re my son,” dude, he totally stole that line from Lion King ‘you’re my son, and the one, true king.’…my poor Loki, crying, betrayed by his father, my heart is breaking…Jane turning into a puddle once Thor kisses her hand reminds me of how I feel about Kurt…the grabbing of the book out of Jane’s hand was a great little moment…Erik Selvig is one cool mofo…Does Asgard just put Odin in front of random words to make them sound more important? ‘I am Odinson’ ‘He fell into the Odin Sleep’ ‘I need to use the Odin Toilet’…Loki is right, he can’t just undo the last king’s orders by bringing Thor back, he’d look weak… “You think me strange?” I mean, no one else in Asgard talks like that…Awww, Loki’s about to cry again…SHIELD sure does move fast…Agent Sitwell is in more Marvel movies than I remember…Thor is almost as impressive as Black Widow at taking down men…the first appearance of Hawkeye!…the look of abject failure on Thor’s face, with the rain falling over him = priceless… Heimdall sees all…Thor’s eyebrows are so blonde…I love when Coulson leaves and Loki is just there!…Loki in a suit, yum yum…Loki is pretty cruel, Thor’s only ever loved him…Loki, did you really think you’d be worthy of Mjölnir…Selvig trying to take down Thor in a drinking contest… “I still don’t think you’re the God of Thunder, but you ought to be!”…gotta put away the cereal, don’t want Thor to see that you eat Go Lean Crunch!…I thought Thor was supposed to be followed? Because it sure doesn’t look like anyone is following him…

Loki, Thor, Marvel, Tom Hiddleston

The perfection that is Loki in Thor.

Loki, if you were just nice, Thor’s friends would like you. I know, it’s all Odin’s fault…it’s amazing how fast Thor learned humility… “Is there a Renaissance fair today?” “Base, we’ve got Xena, Jackie Chan, and Robin Hood!”…how did Thor’s friends know where he was? Does Thor have a homing device on him?…Lady Sif and the Warriors Three? Poor men get no name recognition…it’s a wee bit freaky when Loki suddenly turns blue when he freezes Heimdall…nice shoutout to Tony Stark by Coulson… Volstagg aka Pullo from Rome always gets the raw end of the deal…little romantic tension between Thor and Sif…and its robot Cyclops with the beyotch-slap!…Odin in his Odin Sleep sees Thor Odinson and Odin weeps…okay, when Thor gets the hammer back and the lightning and stuff surround him, it’s pretty cheesy…but the look on Selvig’s face makes up for it!!!…Heimdall’s silent screams…you will return for her? Yeah, in two years, jerk! She made you worthy of that hammer!…Rene Russo, you live to see another day…but not too many, ha ha… “And your death came by the son of Odin!” I love that line. Loki just wants to be loved. And Thor RUINS IT…Loki just randomly gets a horse. So, are horses from Asgard and they brought them to Earth, did they take them from Earth and bring them to Asgard, or did they somehow exist on both planets independently?…Oh my gosh, when Thor tells Loki that he can’t kill an entire race and Loki asks why not, then laughs and smiles that big smile *swoon*…Loki and Thor fighting is my favorite part of the movie…Tom Hiddleston just looks like he’s having so much fun…putting the hammer on Loki is genius, but shouldn’t it crush him?…Odin wakes up as soon as Thor starts destroying rainbow road…Odin to the rescue…Loki just sounds so pitiful, this was Odin’s chance…God, that face, I just want to caress it, my poor Loki…yet Thor still loves his brother. As do I, Thor, as do I…Odin’s eyepatch is much cooler than Fury’s…poor Heimdall, having to stand at the bridge his whole life, but now just staring into the cracked pieces of rainbow road…the extra scene gives away so much! They’ve really up their extra scene game…OMG that Loki whisper…okay, if you thought this was heavy on the Loki love, just wait until we watch the Avengers again!!!

Concert-ing: Sufjan Stevens at the Saenger Theater in New Orleans on May 9, 2015

Sufjan Stevens at the Saenger in New Orleans

Sufjan Stevens at the Saenger in New Orleans

Sufjan Stevens’ latest work, Carrie & Lowell, is his most simply constructed album. For the most part, it is just him on guitar and maybe a few other instruments (on one song the other instrument is an air conditioner which provides a sense of loneliness on that song). This is also his most personal record. In a recent pitchfork article he stated:

“With this record, I needed to extract myself out of this environment of make-believe,” he says, pulling at his sneaker’s red tongue. “It’s something that was necessary for me to do in the wake of my mother’s death—to pursue a sense of peace and serenity in spite of suffering. It’s not really trying to say anything new, or prove anything, or innovate. It feels artless, which is a good thing. This is not my art project; this is my life.”

By doing so, Sufjan is pulling back the floorboards and showing us his secrets. It’s a stunning triumph of an album. It could come off as just sadness and loneliness, but Stevens is too good of a songwriter to do this. By using landmarks and mythology as reference points, he makes this album universal to anyone that has had a loss in his life. In addition, the sparseness of musical instruments doesn’t mean Stevens lacks musical ideas. The music here is as gorgeous as anything he’s done.

Of course, I was fascinated to see how these songs would play live. Being such a personal set of songs, I wondered if he would shy away from playing or use them to process his feelings toward his mother. It was definitely the latter. Songs two through eleven were from Carrie & Lowell as well as the set’s final number. Some he just played by himself for a time, but his band would eventually flesh them out. Being a talented multi-instrumental artist, Stevens must have made many like-minded friends during his career. Each member of the band played at least two or three different instruments during the night. The new instrumentation on some songs gave the songs new meanings and new outlooks. “All of Me Wants All of You” could have fit in on the towering Age of Adz while “John the Beloved” was even more devastating than it is on the album. The first set’s closer “Blue Bucket of Gold” comes off as lullaby that leads into a dream on the album, but here with it’s pounding “A Day in the Life” coda reflects all the pain and heartache that was in Sufjan’s life until he says enough and ends the song.

He did play some older songs. Two of which were songs that got me hooked on Stevens  were “That Dress Looks Nice on You” and “To Be Alone With You.” The latter song does what a whole genre keeps trying to do, make Christian music enjoyable for the masses. Stevens’ faith has always been a theme in his work, but his music never reaches the pandering of most “Christian” artists, which is probably why he rejects the title. His songs about faith are simple and heartfelt without feeling like preaching, but he doesn’t also shy away from questioning his beliefs. This especially true in the second to last song of the night, and my absolute favorite song by Stevens, “Casimir Pulaski Day.” The song, a maybe not true story of a friend’s losing battle to bone cancer, doesn’t shy away questioning why does God take away from us such beautiful people. The music here, again, also illustrates Stevens’ feelings in a way that his words might fail him. For this song, the music is angry, thankful, and joyous at the same time.

After a night of “music about death”, he said, since this was New Orleans, he had to play the one happy and joyful song in his canon. Of course, this meant “Chicago.” If I were to recommend any one song to anyone from any artist, it would be this song. While it’s not my favorite, it is the most joyous song I have ever heard. When it bursts into life, I can’t help but smile. Neither could the audience who could no longer contain their respectfulness and stood up and danced. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen.

After an intense and focused first half, which featured the songs from Carrie & Lowell and no audience interaction, Sufjan interacted with the crowd quite a bit. A natural and educated storyteller, he shared stories (or myths) from his childhood. He was as funny and charming as he was focus and intense with the new material.

The show wasn’t perfect either. Twice during the encore he forgot the lyrics (the first time was after bragging about he didn’t need the lyrics and removed the lyric sheet). However, this was a perfect show for me. The setting, the Saenger Theater in New Orleans, matched the music beautifully. The light work were some of the best I’ve seen; it was only rivaled by people definitely have much larger budgets.

Even though the music and mood could be heavy, the energy at the end of the show couldn’t help but a smile on your face.

Watching: Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, part 1

A few days ago, Kurt posted a link to my wall about The Nerdist’s guide on how to watch all of Marvel’s universe in order. Naturally, I immediately decided that we needed to rise to the challenge. Since we teach full time in addition to many other job responsibilities, we’re only watching one or two (if it’s a television episode) a night. Just for schlitz and giggles, here’s a running commentary on each. I’ll randomly post them after we’ve watched a few. Obviously, if you’ve never seen the movies…

Spoilers, Sweeties.

5/4/15 – Iron Man

Iron Man, marvel universe, Tony Stark,

Iron Man

Why did Tony get out of the car? How silly is that, he was explicitly told to stay there…Pepper Potts with the BURN!…I totally forgot Terrence Howard was Rhodey first! I just love Don Cheadle so much, thanks to watching Hotel Rwanda a dozen times when I taught World Geography…Geeze, RDJ is young! He seems to just get finer with age, like a fine wine…Ok, him pulling that long string thing from his nose is DISGUSTING…I forgot all of this beginning stuff with the weapons and the torturing…it’s kind of like Yoda teaching Luke the ways of the Force, all this Yinsen/Stark stuff…I mean, how dumb are the terrorists? He’s not building anything like the picture…I feel like Tony Stark has never worked so hard in his life as he did building the initial suit…How can he even walk in that suit?…So much sadness, so early… “Don’t waste your life”…and with that fall from flying, he’d be dead, so dead…and Rhodey just happens to find him? Uh, coincidence of the century…how long does it take to eat a cheeseburger?…COULSON!!!!…God, Jeff Bridges is such a good bad guy, I mean, this guy is the Dude!!….Obadiah is just so slick, it’s great..I love the banter between Tony and Pepper… “I don’t have anybody…but you”…there’s just something so sinister about the scene when the terrorists find Tony’s mask in the desert…I love when Tony is building his Iron Man outfit, it’s just so fun…Injunction! Lockout! I teach these in Civics! Such a great real world example, ha ha… “Yeah…I can fly”…ooh, the first time only seeing his face when he has the suit on!…that gold suit is so bad ass, it’s like a C-3PO on steroids… “You look great, Hef!” Great line, lol…COULSON!!!!….I love the way he looks at Pepper… “With olives, a lot of olives, at least three olives”…and now we see Obadiah’s true evil self, it’s kind of sexy…I mean, not the innocent deaths, that’s not sexy…but Tony putting on the final Iron Man suit is! Look at it shine! And when that mask goes down and the eyes light up *shivers*…He’s so bad ass, I can’t get over it…I really can’t stop picturing how Don Cheadle would have handled Rhodey…Obadiah just looked at that television like he was going to do bad, bad things to it…ok, Obadiah stopped being sexy, now I feel icky…Pepper could never really quit Tony…Jeff Bridges should be the bad guy in every movie ever…COULSON!!!!… “Well, I’m sorry, I’m not Tony Stark”…Oh, no, he DIDN’T just threaten the life of Pepper! Did you see Tony’s eyes?!…I love that robot arm… “Ooh, wow, what’s that? It’s like a little device, it’s like a thing that’s gonna pick the lock?” Pepper’s just so gosh darn cute…”Keep the sky’s clear.” “Damn.” My sentiments exactly…Yes, because when’s there is chains wiggling and weird metal noises, I always walk directly toward it…and when a giant metal suit is chasing me, I think I’ll just stop and talk on the phone to Tony…Obadiah is like the Iron Giant meets the Hulk…Guess the icing problem wasn’t that big of a deal…when Obadiah opens the suit to talk to Tony, he looks just like a Dalek that’s opened it’s outer armor…You’ll die? C’mon, girl, he’s in at least four more Marvel movies… “Just call us S.H.I.E.L.D.” YUS…TS + PP 4eva…”Truth is, I AM IRON MAN!!!!” God, was that not the best ending to any of the Marvel movies? I just remember the theater whooping and cheering…Nicky Fury! “And I’m here to talk to you about the Avenger Initiative.” IT STARTS.

5/6/15 – The Incredible Hulk

The Incredible Hulk, Bruce Banner, Marvel universe, Edward Norton

The Incredible Hulk

We don’t own TIH, so we had to rent if off of iTunes. I think it’s the one MCU movie that we don’t own. We must remedy that the next time we’re at Best Buy or something…Geeze, it starts really dark, we’ve only seen it once, right before the first Avengers came out…I guess why get in to the how he became the Hulk and more of the aftereffects of him becoming it…I really like Edward Norton, a lot actually. I think he made a good Hulk. But there’s just something so perfect about Mark Ruffalo…Never forget, kids, Brazil was conquered by Portugal and Portugal retained control due to the Treaty of Tordesillas, therefore, they speak Portuguese and not Spanish like most of Central and South America (I definitely taught this in World Geography)…ewww, blood in a drink is just disgusting anyway, not just because it’s Hulk blood…oooh, I love that he sticks up for the woman… “You wouldn’t like me when I’m…hungry” ha ha…Mr. Green, nice…no pricking of the fingers!!! Geeze, ew, I hate stuff like that…and now blood from the arm…Nice Stan Lee cameo, forgot how he was in this one…Poor doggie!!…and pretty woman just happens to live below him, uh huh…he should’ve just stayed in her apartment for awhile…ha ha, guy fell off the roof!…Is it Hulk time? I feel like it’s about to be Hulk time…dude, when they threw the bomb and Hulk was illuminated as a fiery shadow, that was a wicked shot…and then he talks?! “Leave me alone”…wow, he ended up in Guatemala…funny, kid giving tattered Bruce Banner money…Lie to Me, that’s where this dude is from, not that I’ve ever watched that show…husband just asked, “Is that 50 Cent?!” I honestly don’t know…I love that Liv Tyler’s character is never mentioned again after this movie…yeah, Bruce, like she was just gonna sit around, waiting on you…love Lou Ferrigno! I’m glad he got a cameo…Ugh, trying to remember who is Mr. Blue, dare I say who I think?…Liv’s with that guy from Modern Family?! Ugh…I feel like Liv acted that same scene in Armageddon (Ben Affleck/Bruce Willis) and Lord of the Rings (Aragon)…she’s always so breathy, like she just finished running a marathon…those bangs are so 2000-late…yeah, I have no idea what’s happening in this movie, all I really remember is Hulk bests everyone and leaves with his little pulse rate thingy…ewwww, he swallows a flash drive?!…Oh, yeah, let’s lock the guy that turns superhuman and can’t die in a glass enclosure, that’ll work…I love that look the soldiers just gave, “Oh shiiiiiiii-”…Ruh roh, he thinks you’re hurting Liv, now you’re gonna get it… “Is that it? Is that all you got?” HULK KICK TO THE CHEST… “Bruce” she breathily exclaimed, before yielding herself to him completely…oh, NOW you care about your daughter… “I used to wonder why she never talked about you. Now I know!” Oooh, burrrrn…Hulky’s in love, d’awwww…Being a Hulk really seems to take a lot out of a guy…okay, I must admit, the shower water turning into gunshots scared me…Bruce holding up purple stretchy pants to him, classic…yeouch, Hulk is reigning havoc on Bruce’s “ahem” fun time…uh, nope, I have no idea who Mr. Blue is, am I supposed to?…Nice to see Liv actually get mad, that’s probably the best acting of her career, she wasn’t whispering!…Well, Mr. Blue is Tim Blake Nelson, loved him in O Brother, Where Art Thou…Ok, Lie to Me aka Blonsky is getting really freaked up…Watching Ed Norton slowly change and unchange to the Hulk while strapped was pretty cool…Blonsky is jumping up staircases like he’s Toad from X-Men…Gen. Ross is obviously part of Hydra…I love that Blonsky turns into Godzilla…what’s with that creepy smile, Tim Blake Nelson?!… “Give me a REAL fight!”…Liv is a total Betty…mad props if you get that last statement and why I’m giggling right now…I love how Blonskyzilla can talk…and totally bested Hulk in the initial meeting…Hulk using a police car as boxing gloves, niiiice…aren’t they both green?…I’d be puking like crazy on that spinning copter…”HULK…SMASH!!!!”…oh, yeah, Liv, let’s keep Blonskyzilla alive, that’s sure to end well…only a woman can truly tame a Hulk…and where exactly is Blonskyzilla while Bruce is running through fields of glory?…I guess the secret is that he’s always angry…and in walk Tony Stark through a door of light, like the angel he is… “What if I told you we’re putting a team together?” “Who’s we?” Who’s we, indeed!!…I have no issue with this film, in fact, I like it this second time around even more than the first!

5/7/15 – The Consultant [Marvel One Shot]

So this is supposed to be watched before the end credit scene in TIH, oops…WHAT?! Blonsky is a hero?!…why is Tony Stark “The Consultant?”…so Blonsky is known as “The Abomination”…and they managed to cage him? What sort of cage?…so the end credit scene of TIH is simply a shorter scene of this. Weak sauce…at least we now know what happened to Blonskyzilla!…this definitely tied up some loose ends in Hulk…Coulson was really good, I miss him!

Reblogging: Watch The ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Trailer As A 16-Bit Game

This is a pretty good parody. Well done!

At this point, demakes and parodies of any major trailer are all but inevitable. But it’s rare that one gets pulled off with such attention to detail, bugs and all.

Found by Gizmodo, the trailer hits every beat in the original. Just… a little flatter and with less detail. The opening alone is both hilarious and nostalgic, although I have to wonder even as an adult why putting a painting on a roller was so hard with ’90s graphics technology.

If the pacing and sense of humor feels familiar, Noober Goober Gaming, the animation team behind it, also gleefully stuck it to Floyd Mayweather in a parody of Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!. Really, they should just be animating every ridiculous pop culture moment from now on. Maybe if they get paid enough, they could just animate the upcoming presidential race. Everybody in that field would look better as…
